Shehbaz expresses alarm over murder of Bahawalpur professor

LAHORE: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly and former Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has voiced alarm over the brutal murder of a college professor in Bahawalpur.

Professor Khalid Hameed was stabbed to death by his student after a heated argument regarding a welcome party.

“I have no words to describe my grief about the murder of Professor Khalid Hamid. The killing of a teacher at the hands of a student of the basis of difference of opinion is a cause of concern for for the whole nation,” Sharif said in a statement.

“We should think of a moment as how each of us can play a role to prevent such extremist mindset,” he said.

The opposition leader expressed sympathy for the victim’s family.

The suspect, Khateen Hussain, Aastudent of 5th semester at Govt Sadiq Egerton College in Bahawalpur, told police that he attacked the professor with a knife because he used to “speak against Islam.”

The suspect showed no remorse for his action.
