Power Sector offers huge private and foreign investment potential: Planning Minister
Ministry for Planning, Development & Reform on Thursday said that there is a huge potential for private and foreign direct investment in the power value chain including generation, transmission and distribution.
The remarks came from Minister for Planning, Development & Reform Khusro Bakhtyar during a meeting with a delegation led by the Vice Chief Economist Shanghai Electric Power Mingwei Shi on Thursday.
Khusro assured that the government is committed to resolving the issues affecting the viability of the power sector.
He highlighted that under the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework, a number of energy projects are being executed and are in the pipeline.
Mingwei Shi said that Shanghai Electric’s investment in purchasing K-electric is only the beginning and the company is interested to further expand its investment portfolio in the power sector of Pakistan.
The minister was briefed about the latest status and issues in finalizing the transaction for the purchase of KES power.
Mingwei Shi requested the minister to facilitate the process for early completion of the transaction.
Member Energy, Member Private Sector and senior officials of the ministry were also present in the meeting.
