Indian HC Ajay Bisaria meets British, EU envoys in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad Ajay Bisaria met the EU envoys for Pakistan and Afghanistan after his return to the federal capital as tensions de-escalated between the two neighbors.

“High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria met the Special Envoy of the EU for Afghanistan Ambassador Roland Kobia and the EU Ambassador to Pakistan Jean-François Cautain. Wide ranging discussions included recent regional developments and terrorism,” India in Pakistan, a verified Twitter handle reporting activities of Indian HC, posted.

The Indian HC said that it was greet sweeping views with EU stalwarts. He also met with British High Commissioner Thomas Drew in Islamabad.

Mr Bisaria returned to India in the aftermath of alleged Indian airstrikes in Balakot, which led to a dogfight between two countries the very next day. As a result, an Indian fight aircraft was shot down while its pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan was captured.

Prime Minister Imran Khan ordered the release of the captured Indian pilot as a goodwill gesture. The move was credited with de-escalation of tensions between Pakistan and India.

On March 5, the Acting Indian High Commissioner was called to the Foreign Office and following was conveyed: i. Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India will be returning to New Delhi, after completion of consultations in Islamabad.

The Pakistan Delegation will visit New Delhi on 14 March 2019, followed by the return visit of the Indian delegation to Islamabad on 28 March 2019, to discuss the draft Agreement on Kartarpur Corridor.

Pakistan’s commitment to continued weekly contact at the Military Operations Directorates level.
