Indian cricketer responds to arrest of IAF pilot Abhinandan in Pakistan
KARACHI: Indian spinner Ashwin Ravichandran has urged his government to take steps to bring back Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan arrested by Pakistan army in Azad and Jammu Kashmir.
Abhinandan Varthaman, a pilot of the Indian Air Force (IAF), was arrested after Pakistan army shot down two Indian military planes for violating Pakistani airspace.
Pakistan army also released the video of the captured soldier who introduced himself as Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
In a televised address to the nation, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that two Indian planes were shot down by Pakistan after they entered the country’s airspace.
He urged India to sit and talk on terrorism and other issues instead of escalating the tense situation.
After initial denial, India also confirmed the arrest of IAF pilot Abhinandan.
After the confirmation from Indian External Affairs Ministry, Twitter users in India called for the release of their pilot in Pakistan.
Ahswin Ravichandran joined calls for his release.
“Imagine his household😥 #BringBackAbhi,” Ravichcandran tweeted. He was responding to a tweet from an Indian sports anchor.
“Devastated at the capture of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. Hope he’s treated well. Absolutely grief-stricken at how his family would be feeling at this moment. I sincerely hope all efforts are made to get him back,” Arun Venugopal tweeted.
