ISLAMABAD: Federal Religious Minister Dr Noor ul Haq Qadri has revealed that Hajj will become more expensive in the next few years.

Saudi Arabia wants all countries to gradually transfer Hajj packages to the private sector over the next three to four years, the minister said, adding that this would make the pilgrimage even more expensive.

The minister said that all countries would have to accept the Saudi Arabia’s demand to move to private operators.

His statement comes a few days after the federal cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to abolish subsidy on Hajj.

The subsidy withdrawal increased the expenditure for performing Hajj.

Although the move has irked opposition parties, the ruling PTI has defended its decision, saying Islam doesn’t allow performing Hajj at state expense.
