President appoints Justice Asif Saeed Khosa as new CJP
ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi today approved the appointment of Justice Asif Saeed Khosa as new Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Justice Khosa will formally assume the charge of his office on January 18 and after the incumbent Chief Justice Saqib Nisar will attain superannuation.
It must be mentioned here that the newly appointed Chief Justice will head country’s top court till December 2019.
Justice Khosa was born on December 21, 1954, in Dera Ghazi Khan. After completing his undergraduate and master’s degree from the University of Punjab he moved forward to complete his Law Tripos Part-I from the Queens College, UK and later became Barrister at Law at the Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London.
Justice Khosa has been serving as the top most senior Judge of Supreme court since 2016. While in the capacity of advocate in the Lahore High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Khosa handled thousands of cases related to criminal, civil, service, constitutional etc.
He is also the author of various books including the very first one ‘Heeding the Constitution’ published in 1995, second one ‘Constitutional Apologues’ in 1997, third one ‘Judging with passion’ in 2008 and few others also.
Justice Khosa is also the founding member of SAARCLAW, Memebr Judicial Commission of Pakistan since 2015, Chairman Shariat Appellate Bench of Supreme Court since 2016 and have many other honors too.
