Nawaz files supplementary plea against Al Azizia reference
ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif filed a supplementary plea against the Al-Azizia verdict that sentenced him to seven years in prison. The plea was filed on Tuesday.
On December 24, an accountability court had sentenced Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison in the Al-Azizia reference after finding him guilty.
Nawaz Sharif had submitted a petition against the verdict and also filed an appeal against the decision of the accountability court.
The plea was submitted by his counsel at the Islamabad High Court.
The petition, submitted by his counsel Khawaja Haris, stated that a two-member IHC bench has heard the plea, and clubbed petitions seeking suspension of Nawaz’s sentence with the appeal against his conviction in the reference.
On the other hand, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed appeals against the accountability court’s verdict in the Flagship and Al-Azizia references.
NAB stated that releasing the former prime minister on the pretext of benefit of doubt was false as the anti-graft body had submitted solid evidence against him.
As far as the Al-Azizia reference is concerned, NAB has requested the court to extend Nawaz Sharif’s seven-year sentence.
