Independent police force prerequisite for an efficient justice system: CJP
ISLAMABAD: An independent police force that does its job without political intervention is a prerequisite for an efficient and impartial justice system, said Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, on Monday.
The chief justice was addressing a gathering of judges and other dignitaries at the launch of a police reforms committee report at the Supreme Court.
He spoke about Islamabad IG transfer case and said that people often wondered why he took suo moto notice on it.
“I did not take the suo moto notice for any individual’s benefit–a police officer was asked to explain his position to a non-office bearer,” he said. “In this situation, the entire police department’s integrity was compromised.”
Justice Saqib Nisar said that after his intervention in the form of the suo moto notice, the DPO had been transferred respectfully.
He said that the report was a roadmap to overhaul the entire police department and make it an efficient force to tackle existing modern challenges.
“Depoliticising police, and making it people friendly, were the core recommendations of the report,” he said.
