Highlight of the #AsiaBibi review hearing.
CJ Khosa: So what you’re saying is that Aasia allegedly said these blasphemous words while addressing 25 people…was she addressing a jalsa?!” Ridiculous. Review dismissed.
Well done, Chief Justice Sahab.

The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold #AsiaBibi‘s acquittal finally clears the path to her freedom – one that has been riddled with injustice, violence and intimidation. She must now be reunited with her family without delay and seek safety in a country of her choice. #Pakistan

#AsiaBibi ordeal is finally over after almost a decade of persecution over false #blasphemy charges. I still remember 1st time I met her family in 2011 & wrote this long form article “Among the Blasphemers” (Still consider this as 1 of my best reportage): https://t.co/9QOw9LU4PG

On acquittal case of #AsiaBibi, the CJP while questioning the petitioner’s lawyer asked ‘prove to us what is wrong with the verdict?’ The burden of proof is on the petitioner.

The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal challenging the acquittal of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother who was released in November last year after being on death row since 2010.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and comprising Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel heard the review petition.
After hearing arguments from the petitioner, Qari Muhammad Salalam, the apex court rejected their appeal on merit.
Mustafa Chaudhry, the counsel for the petitioner, requested the apex court to set up a larger bench and seek opinion of Islamic clerics.
