Aasia Bibi’s daughters have moved to Canada: report
Aasia Bibi’s daughters have moved to Canada, according to a report in The Express Tribune, that was published on Friday.
According to the report, Aasia Bibi’s daughters have moved to Canada’s capital, Ottawa. The Canadian government had granted asylum to Aasia Bibi and her family after she was acquitted by a Pakistani court from all charges of blasphemy.
“Her two daughters were residing with their stepmother during Bibi’s detention. According to sources, the family’s longstanding guardian and his family were also granted asylum by the Canadian government,” claims the report, citing the report.
In October 2018, the Supreme Court overturned a decision of the Lahore High Court and acquitted Aasia Bibi.
Bibi’s acquittal sparked countrywide protests by the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and other religious parties across the country.
The government struck a deal with protesters in which it was decided that a review petition on the decision would be filed.
The Supreme Court will hear a review petition regarding Aasia Bibi’s acquittal. The first hearing of the petition will take place on January 29.
The bench that will hear the case will be headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and will comprise Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel.
