3rd Test: New Zealand trounce Pakistan by 123 runs to clinch series
ABU DHABI: New Zealand trounced Pakistan by 123 runs to pull off an unlikely win and clinch the series 2-1 against the green shirts, on Friday.
Pakistan were in trouble after they were handed a modest target of 280 runs by the black caps but were bowled out for 156.
However, spinner Somerville took two quick wickers in succession to put New Zealand on the driving seat.
Pakistan were off to another disastrous start when Mohammad Hafeez was bowled by fast bowler Tim Southee for eight, his last innings in Test cricket.
Medium pacer Colin de Grandhomme had first-innings centurion Azhar Ali caught behind for five before Somerville’s double strike pushed Pakistan to the brink.
New Zealand had earlier declared on 353-7, handing Pakistan a target of 280 runs to win the third and final Test of the series.
