Gulalai Ismail placed on ECL on ISI’s recommendation, IHC told
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior said that rights activist Gulalai Ismail was placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) on the recommendation of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
A deputy attorney general has told the Islamabad High Court that the spy agency had recommended putting Ms Ismail’s name on the no-fly list for her alleged anti-state activities abroad, Dawn reported.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Gulalai Ismail seeking removal of her name from the ECL.
Ismail’s counsel said that her client was detained upon her arrival from the United Kingdom even though she was not named in any first information report (FIR) registered against Pakhtun activists.
Ms Ismail, in her petition, pleaded with the court to order the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to return her passport and travel documents.
According to the petition, Ms Ismail is the chairperson of non-governmental organisation “Aware Girls”.
