Khashoggi murder one of the worst cover-ups of history: Trump
President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the Kingdom’s response to accusations of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder was one of the ‘worst cover-ups of history’.
The statement from Trump comes one day after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Khashoggi’s killing inside the Saudis’ Istanbul consulate had been ‘meticulously planned’.
Saudis have so far denied the accusations and pushed the blame down the chain of command.
The crown prince and his father ‘strongly said that he had nothing to do with this, this was at a lower level,’ said President Trump, after disclosing that he had spoken to the king on Monday.
However, Trump made it known that he was not convinced by the version of the Saudis.
“It was carried out poorly (the murder) and the cover-up was one of the worst in the history of cover-ups,” he said.
“It was a total fiasco. I’m saying they should have never thought about it. Once they thought about it, everything else they did was bad too … It should have never happened.”
