Anwar Maqsood mocks Maulana Fazlur Rehman ahead of Azadi March
KARACHI: Renowned host, comedian and writer Anwar Maqsood made fun of Maulana Fazlur Rehman during an event on Tuesday, as the Azadi March looms closer.
Maqsood was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Senior Citizen Primary Healthcare Center. He mocked Maulana Fazlur Rehman by saying that the politician could not sit in one place.
“For a dharna protest, you need to keep sitting. The maulana cannot sit in one place,” he added as the audience laughed.
Maqsood said that it was delightful how an institution in Sindh was functioning at such a good pace and appreciated the efforts of the staff of the center.
“I cannot believe how this institution can function so well in Sindh,” he said. “The best thing about this institution is that it doesn’t need water or power from the government.”
JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has announced a long march from all over Pakistan starting October 27 which would culminate in a sit-in protest in the federal capital.
Fazl has blamed the incumbent government for the rising inflation, unemployment and the worsening economy of the country.
Prime Minister Khan has tasked members of his government to speak with the maulana and try to dissuade him from holding the march.
Prime Minister Khan and the maulana are old rivals. Khan taunts him with the term ‘diesel’ while the maulana has alleged in the past that Khan is an agent of the Jewish lobby.
The government has warned protesters that any untoward situation or law and order breakdown would not be tolerated.
